Carlton is a sizeable suburban town in the borough of Gedling, on the eastern edge of Nottingham in Nottinghamshire, England. It forms part of the continuous urban area around Nottingham and is predominantly residential, with a mix of Victorian terraces, interwar and post‑war housing, local shops and community facilities.
Historically the area expanded in the 19th century alongside framework knitting and the wider county’s coal and light industries, and today serves largely as a commuter suburb with good bus links into Nottingham, some small commercial and industrial estates, and easy access to nearby parks and open countryside. The community is established and varied, reflecting both its industrial past and its role within the wider Nottingham urban region.
