Stoke Bardolph is a very small village and civil parish in the borough of Gedling, in rural Nottinghamshire, set low on the floodplain of the River Trent just a short distance from Nottingham. It feels distinctly rural despite its proximity to the city, with arable fields, grazing land and a tiny local community rather than a built-up village centre.
The settlement is perhaps best known for the large water and sewage works nearby, a long‑standing local employer whose treatment lagoons and reedbeds have also created valuable wetland habitat for waders and waterfowl. The name preserves medieval roots linked to the Bardolf family, and the parish today is defined by its landscape - river, floods and farms - as much as by its sparse population and quiet, commuter‑friendly character.
