Cotgrave is a small town and electoral ward in the borough of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, England, sitting to the south‑east of Nottingham. It grew from an older village into a mid‑20th century mining community when a colliery became the area’s main employer; after the pit closed the landscape was reclaimed and the former spoil and gravel workings were turned into a large country park with lakes, wildlife and walking routes, giving the place an unexpectedly green, recreational edge close to urban centres.
Today Cotgrave feels both suburban and villagey: there are local shops, schools and community and sports clubs alongside newer housing estates, and many residents commute to nearby towns. The blend of historic village core, post‑industrial green space and a tight‑knit community gives the ward a distinctive local identity within Rushcliffe, with good road links to the surrounding area and easy access to riverside and countryside beyond, including the River Trent corridor.
