Sutton Bonington is a large village and civil parish in the borough of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, England, sitting beside the River Soar close to the border with Leicestershire. Historically the settlement grew from two adjacent villages, Sutton and Bonington, and still shows that layered past in its churches and a mix of Georgian and Victorian architecture; the riverside setting and nearby countryside make it popular with walkers and commuters alike.
The village is best known for the University of Nottingham campus at Sutton Bonington, which houses much of the university’s agricultural, bioscience and veterinary teaching and research alongside experimental farms. That connection, together with local farming, small businesses, community groups, pubs and sports clubs, shapes the local economy and social life, while larger towns such as Nottingham and Loughborough are a short commute away.
