Royton North sits in the northern part of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in Greater Manchester, historically part of Lancashire. The area grew up around the 19th‑century textile industry, so you still see rows of Victorian terraces and converted mill buildings that hint at its industrial past.
Today it is largely residential with a mix of older housing and post‑war estates, local shops, schools and community centres, and sits close to the open, rolling land on the edge of the Pennines which gives pleasant views across the wider conurbation. Many residents commute into Oldham or Manchester, while small businesses, local sports clubs and community regeneration projects shape its contemporary social and economic life.
