Lees is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, on the eastern edge of Greater Manchester and historically part of Lancashire. Sitting close to the foothills of the Pennines, it developed in the 19th century around textile mills and coal workings, and still shows that industrial heritage in some surviving mill buildings and the pattern of Victorian terraces.
Today Lees has a semi‑rural, commuter‑village feel with local shops, pubs and community groups and good links into Oldham and Manchester. Its proximity to open countryside makes it popular for walks and outdoor recreation, while local history societies and small businesses reflect a continuing interest in the village’s social and economic past and present.
