Uppermill is a large village in the civil parish of Saddleworth, within the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in Greater Manchester, England, historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It sits on the banks of the River Tame at the edge of the Pennines and is crossed by the Rochdale Canal, giving a mix of hill scenery, towpaths and converted 19th‑century cotton mills.
The village keeps a strong local identity with independent shops, traditional pubs and the Saddleworth Museum, and its industrial past has largely given way to tourism, local services and commuter living. Annual traditions such as the Whit Friday brass‑band contests and local rushbearing events add to a lively community calendar, while the surrounding hills make Uppermill a popular base for walkers.
