Dobcross is a compact, stone-built village in the Saddleworth area of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, Greater Manchester, in England; historically it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It sits on the western edge of the Pennines, overlooking moorland and narrow valleys, which makes it popular with walkers and visitors seeking rural scenery close to the conurbation.
Like much of Saddleworth, Dobcross grew around 18th–19th century wool and cotton weaving and retains former mill buildings, terraced cottages and a conservation-centre feel. Today it functions largely as a commuter and local-service village with independent shops, pubs and a lively community calendar - including the area’s well-known Whit Friday brass-band tradition - while tourism and outdoor recreation remain important to the local economy.
