Crompton sits on the northern fringe of the Oldham borough in Greater Manchester, edging towards the Pennines. The ward is notable for its mix of suburban streets and open moorland, including Crompton Moor, which gives locals ready access to countryside views and walking routes despite being close to the conurbation.
Historically part of Lancashire, the area grew through the textile and coal industries and remnants of that industrial past - mill buildings and terraces - remain alongside newer housing. Today it is largely residential with a community-focused feel: local clubs, shops and occasional events keep a strong civic identity, while many residents commute into Manchester and surrounding towns for work.
