Cropredy is a small village and civil parish in the district of Cherwell, Oxfordshire, England, lying on meadows beside the River Cherwell about four miles north‑east of Banbury. It retains a compact core of stone cottages, a medieval church with Norman fabric and a picturesque stone bridge, and is famously the scene of the 1644 Battle of Cropredy Bridge during the English Civil War.
Economically it remains largely rural with agriculture and a number of commuters to nearby towns, but its social life is outsized for a village of its size thanks to a strong community spirit and the annual Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, a long‑running music festival which brings thousands of visitors and helps define the village’s contemporary identity. Conservation of historic buildings and riverside meadows contributes to its well‑preserved, villagey character.
