East Hendred is a small village in the Vale of White Horse district of Oxfordshire, England, a few miles east of Wantage, and historically part of Berkshire until 1974. It sits in the valley of Letcombe Brook, a rare chalk stream, and lies within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the Ridgeway and the famous Uffington White Horse close by.
The village combines a long history - medieval St Augustine's Church, the manor Hendred House with its recusant Catholic associations, and a local museum - with active community life centred on amenities like the village pub Hendred Arms. Economically it remains partly agricultural but many residents commute to nearby science and transport hubs such as Harwell and Didcot, while local conservation and heritage projects keep the rural character lively.
