Farmoor in the Vale of White Horse district of Oxfordshire, England is a small, mainly residential village about five miles west of Oxford. Its most striking feature is the nearby Farmoor Reservoir, a pair of large waterbodies fed from the River Thames that were created in the mid-20th century and now supply water to the city while also providing wide open space for walking, sailing and excellent birdwatching.
Once principally farmland, the village grew in the 20th century and today combines a commuter population with a strong local community feel; leisure and conservation around the reservoir are important to the local economy and identity, and visitors are drawn by cycling routes, nature reserves and informal watersports rather than heavy industry or tourism crowds.
