Wytham is a small rural parish just west of Oxford, set in the rolling countryside of the Vale of White Horse in Oxfordshire, England. It is best known for Wytham Woods, an ancient woodland owned by the University of Oxford and renowned as an internationally important long‑term ecological research site, frequented by walkers, birdwatchers and scientists studying everything from great tits and badgers to the effects of climate change; the landscape also lies close to the River Thames.
Historically the settlement has medieval roots and retains a quiet, village character dominated by farmland, estate land and woodland; the local economy remains largely agricultural with strong links to conservation and university research. Socially it feels more like an extended countryside community than a commuter suburb, with conservation and scientific work shaping much of its contemporary identity.
