South Hinksey is a small, mainly residential village and civil parish in the Vale of White Horse district of Oxfordshire, England, situated just to the south‑west of Oxford on the south bank of the Hinksey Stream and beneath Hinksey Hill. Its riverside meadows and floodplain give it a rural character despite being a short commute from central Oxford, and the nearby A34 ring‑road provides straightforward road links.
Historically the area formed part of Berkshire until local government reorganisation in 1974, and the village retains a mix of older cottages and more modern housing. It is popular with walkers and birdwatchers who use the waterside paths and green corridors, and maintains a small, close‑knit community rather than any large commercial centre.
