Boars Hill in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England is a leafy ridge and small residential community just to the west of Oxford. Sitting above the Thames valley, it is prized for sweeping panoramic views across the city – the famous “dreaming spires” of Oxford are visible on a clear day – and for accessible walks into the surrounding countryside.
The area has long attracted academics and artists and retains a quietly affluent, village-like character with a mix of Victorian and later houses; many residents commute into Oxford or have links with the university. Boars Hill also enjoys literary associations - Matthew Arnold celebrated its view in his poem Thyrsis - and lies close to research woodlands such as Wytham Woods, so it combines cultural history with notable local wildlife and walking opportunities.
