Sunningwell is a small, mainly rural parish in the Vale of White Horse district of Oxfordshire, lying a few miles south of Oxford and close to Abingdon. The parish includes the village and the neighbouring hamlet of Bayworth, set among low-lying farmland, hedgerows and pleasant footpaths that make it popular with walkers and commuters who want quick access to the city while enjoying a quieter countryside setting.
Historically the area has deep roots - local landholdings were associated with monastic houses and the medieval church of St Leonard has early features - and it was transferred from Berkshire to Oxfordshire in the 1974 boundary changes. Today the community is a mix of agriculture, small local enterprises and residential life with occasional village events, retaining a strong sense of local history alongside its role as part of the wider Oxford commuter belt.
