Swinton is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it sits in the Don valley area and grew up during the industrial era around coal mining and the railways.
Today Swinton still shows that industrial heritage in its terraces and local landmarks, but functions largely as a commuter town with good rail links to Sheffield and Doncaster. Community life centres on local shops, parks and clubs, and there has been ongoing regeneration to modernise housing and amenities while recognising the town’s mining and transport history.
