Mexborough is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, sitting on the banks of the River Don in the industrial Dearne Valley. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it grew rapidly in the 19th century around coal mining, glass and iron industries and the canals and railways that served them.
Those heavy industries largely closed in the late 20th century, leaving a landscape of terraced streets, industrial heritage and ongoing regeneration; there are green corridors along the river and improving local services with good rail links into nearby cities such as Sheffield and Doncaster. The town retains a strong community identity, with local clubs, sports teams and cultural traditions that reflect its working‑class past while adapting to new economic realities.
