Maghull sits in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, England, a few miles north of Liverpool and within easy reach of the sand-dunes and pinewoods around Formby. It has a suburban, semi-rural feel on the edge of greenbelt farmland, with parks, tree-lined streets and pockets of open space that give it more of a small‑town than inner‑city character.
Historically part of Lancashire and once centred on agriculture and market gardening, the town grew significantly when rail links arrived and today is effectively a commuter base with two rail stations, Maghull and Maghull North. The local economy is largely retail, services and light industry, while a lively community scene, schools and sports clubs help maintain a strong neighbourhood identity alongside preserved older buildings and conservation areas.
