Highley is a compact riverside community in south Shropshire sitting on the west bank of the River Severn in the heart of the Severn Valley, with the ancient woodland of the Wyre Forest close by and the market towns of Bridgnorth and Bewdley within easy reach. The village enjoys steep, grassy slopes down to the river and extensive walking country created from reclaimed colliery tips, now used as parkland and viewpoints over the valley.
Historically shaped by coal mining, Highley retains a strong sense of community and industrial heritage: a preserved station on the Severn Valley Railway and a visitor centre celebrate the area's railway and mining past while drawing tourists. Today the local economy mixes commuting and small businesses with tourism and outdoor recreation, and village life is marked by active voluntary groups, a primary school and a handful of pubs and clubs that keep social life lively.
