The town of Slough sits on the western edge of the London urban area, in the Thames Valley close to Windsor and a short drive from Heathrow. Its flat, well connected location beside the M4 and strong rail links to London have made it an important transport hub and commuter centre.
Historically a market town that expanded rapidly with the arrival of railways and industry, Slough is home to the Slough Trading Estate, one of the oldest and largest industrial estates in Europe, and a wide mix of tech, logistics and office employers. That industrial base has shaped a practical, business-focused character while also attracting ongoing investment in modern commercial and business parks.
The population is notably diverse, reflected in a wide range of shops, restaurants and community cultures, and recent regeneration schemes aim to improve housing, public spaces and cultural facilities. Green spaces such as Upton Park and the nearby ancient woodland at Burnham Beeches give residents easy access to the countryside, and attractions like Windsor Castle are only a short journey away.
