Weare is a small village and civil parish in the Sedgemoor district of Somerset, lying on the western edge of the Somerset Levels with the Mendip Hills within easy reach. Its history is rooted in medieval farming and marshland management, and the village retains historic stone buildings and a parish church dating back several centuries, set among low-lying pasture criss-crossed by drainage rhynes.
The local economy is largely agricultural, supplemented by small businesses and commuters who travel to larger centres such as Bridgwater and Bristol. Community life is typical of rural Somerset, centred on a village hall, a local pub and seasonal fetes and shows, with an active parish council involved in conservation and flood-management matters.
