Hanham is an electoral ward on the eastern fringe of Bristol, within the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire in England. It sits close to the greenbelt and the meandering course of the River Avon, giving a partly suburban, partly village-like feel with pockets of open countryside and views over the Avon valley.
The area is largely residential and commuter-orientated, with a compact local high street, community groups and long-standing pubs and buildings reflecting Georgian and Victorian phases of growth. Historically the locality was tied to the wider Bristol coalfield and riverside industry, and today it blends that heritage with modern family housing, school provision and reasonably frequent road and bus links into Bristol, so the ward retains a strong local identity while being closely connected to the city.
