The civil parish of Pilning and Severn Beach sits on the edge of the Severn Estuary in South Gloucestershire, occupying low-lying salt marshes and reclaimed farmland beside the mouth of the River Severn. The twin villages give wide views across the estuary and the Severn bridges, and the area is shaped by one of the largest tidal ranges in Britain, making its mudflats a draw for birdwatchers and walkers.
Historically the settlements grew from fishing, marsh reclamation and the arrival of the railway, and local stations on the Severn Beach line link the parish to Bristol and the docks at Avonmouth, albeit with limited services. Today it remains largely residential and commuter-oriented, with a small local economy of farming, seaside leisure and holiday accommodation, plus active community groups and a parish council that help preserve its quieter coastal character beside more industrial neighbours.
