Thornbury is a market town and civil parish in South Gloucestershire, England, roughly twelve miles north of Bristol. It sits on the southern edge of the Severn Vale with views towards the Cotswolds, and its medieval centre of timber-framed buildings and a market place is dominated by the impressive Tudor house known as Thornbury Castle, originally built for the Duke of Buckingham.
Today Thornbury combines a commuter relationship with nearby Bristol and a local economy of small industry, services and agriculture, while retaining a strong community feel: independent shops, regular markets and seasonal events. Historic landmarks such as St Mary’s Church and the castle gardens underline its long history, making it both a residential hub and a modest visitor destination.
