Leiston

Leiston is a small market town in East Suffolk, in the county of Suffolk, England, sitting just a few miles inland from the coast. It lies close to the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and to nature hotspots such as Minsmere, and is a short drive from coastal villages like Aldeburgh and the hamlet of Sizewell, giving the town a mix of seaside access and quiet rural character.

Leiston has an interesting industrial past centred on the former Richard Garrett engineering works, celebrated today by the Long Shop Museum, and that heritage contrasts with the modern influence of the nearby Sizewell nuclear stations on the local economy and planning debates. The town also sits beside historic sites such as the ruins of Leiston Abbey, and retains a strong community feel with local shops, folk events and active campaigning around conservation and development in the area, including transport links from nearby Saxmundham.
