Thurston is an electoral ward in the largely rural district of Mid Suffolk, in western Suffolk, England, lying between the larger market towns of Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket. The ward centres on the village and surrounding farmland, with good commuter links via the local railway station to places such as Ipswich and Cambridge, and easy road access that has encouraged modest housing growth alongside traditional agricultural activity.
Historically the area retains a strong village character, with a medieval parish church, timber-framed cottages and vernacular Suffolk architecture punctuating the landscape. Social life is focused on local institutions - the village school, community hall and regular fĂȘtes and clubs - so while the economy mixes small businesses and farming with a commuter population, there remains a strong local identity and active community life.
