Lakenheath is a village and civil parish in West Suffolk, on the sandy heathlands of the Brecks close to the Suffolk–Norfolk border. The surrounding landscape is striking for its contrast between dry, pine‑dominated heath and the newly created wetland of Lakenheath Fen, a well‑known nature reserve that draws birdwatchers and naturalists to see reedbed species such as bitterns and marshland wildlife.
Locally the economy mixes agriculture, nature‑tourism and the substantial influence of RAF Lakenheath, the nearby airbase which brings an international presence and supports shops, schools and services. The village retains a traditional feel with a medieval parish church, village halls, pubs and community groups, while proximity to towns such as Mildenhall and Brandon provides wider amenities.
