Oxted is a town and civil parish in the district of Tandridge in Surrey, sitting on the northern edge of the North Downs and close to the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It occupies a valley through which the River Eden runs, and much of its growth came with the arrival of the railway in the 19th century, leaving a mix of Victorian high‑street buildings, suburban housing and pockets of common land and woodland.
Today Oxted combines a commuter role for London with a lively local economy of independent shops, cafés and small businesses, backed by good transport links and nearby countryside for walking and outdoor pursuits. The balance of village character and practical connectivity, together with active community groups and local events, helps explain its enduring appeal to families and those seeking a green edge to life near the capital.
