Belmont is a suburban ward in the London Borough of Sutton, sitting on higher ground to the south-west of central London. It’s centred on a small village parade and railway station and benefits from easy rail and road links into Sutton and the capital, while being immediately adjacent to open chalk downland such as Epsom Downs and Banstead Downs.
The area grew up around the arrival of the railway in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and today is largely residential, with a mix of inter‑war and later housing, local shops, schools and pubs. Its proximity to the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse and extensive green space gives it a semi‑rural feel popular with commuters and families, and the local economy is driven by small businesses and services catering to that community.
