Hemsworth is a small former coal-mining town in the metropolitan borough of Wakefield, in West Yorkshire, England. Its history is closely tied to the pits and the mining communities that grew up around them, and that legacy still shapes the town’s streets, community clubs and green spaces.
Today Hemsworth feels like a working market town with a strong local identity: much of the economy has shifted to retail, services and light industry, and many residents commute to larger centres such as Wakefield and Leeds. Surrounded by former pit villages and agricultural land, it retains a sense of community cohesion and ongoing local regeneration efforts.
