Brierley is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it sits on the edge of the Dearne Valley, a short distance from Barnsley and within easy reach of Doncaster.
Once dominated by coal mining, the village still shows its industrial heritage in rows of terraced housing and local memorials, but today is largely residential with shops, a village hall and sports clubs; many residents commute to nearby towns and cities. It retains a strong community feel and access to surrounding countryside and former industrial trails that reflect the area's history and ongoing regeneration.
