Horbury is a small former mill town a few miles west of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, set on the slopes above the River Calder. Its streets mix Victorian stone terraces, converted mill buildings and more recent housing, giving a sense of a commuter town while still offering riverside and valley views and straightforward road and rail connections into Leeds and the wider region.
Historically the town grew up around wool and textile manufacturing and later light engineering, and traces of that industrial past survive in old mills and street names. Today Horbury has an active local community with independent shops, pubs, schools and sports clubs, and a number of heritage and redevelopment projects aim to conserve its character while supporting modern local life.
