The Witterings is a coastal ward on the Manhood Peninsula in the district of Chichester, West Sussex, England, centred on the villages of East Wittering, West Wittering and the shore at Bracklesham Bay. The area is notable for long sandy beaches - West Wittering Beach is National Trust-owned - and for its proximity to Chichester Harbour, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and important bird and marine habitat; Bracklesham Bay is also valued by fossil hunters and naturalists for its Eocene exposures and shorebird watching.
Locally the economy is driven by tourism, watersports and a mix of small businesses, alongside some agriculture and a commuter population to nearby towns. Historical traces from the Bronze Age and later periods dot the peninsula, while village life has a strong community feel with sailing clubs, conservation groups and a marked seasonal swell in visitors and holiday homes that shapes the social character. Views across the Solent can even hint at the distant Isle of Wight on clear days.
