Longsleddale is a remote, narrow valley and civil parish in Westmorland and Furness, England, lying on the eastern fringe of the Lake District fells. The valley is drained by the River Sprint and is characterised by steep, wooded sides, open upland pastures, a single minor road and a scatter of farmsteads rather than a compact village.
Traditionally dominated by hill sheep farming, the community is small and dispersed, with low‑key tourism from walkers and cyclists attracted to its tranquillity and access to fell routes. Historic field patterns, old farm buildings and traces of former upland industries give the place a strong sense of continuity, and conservation of wildlife and riverside habitats sits alongside farming as the parish’s main social and economic focus.
