Staveley is a compact village in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness in northern England, sitting roughly a few miles south of Kendal where the River Gowan meets the River Kent. Its location on the edge of the Lake District and at the head of the Kent valley gives easy access to nearby walking country such as Kentmere and makes it a handy base for walkers and visitors.
Once shaped by mills and small industry, Staveley has in recent years emphasised regeneration and small-scale enterprise: the restored Staveley Mill Yard now houses independent shops, cafés and creative businesses, while the local economy mixes tourism, artisan trades and commuting into Kendal. The village retains a strong community spirit, with village groups and events that reflect its rural, outdoors-oriented character and historic roots.
