Bamfurlong is a small village in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan in Greater Manchester, historically part of Lancashire. It lies a short distance from Wigan town centre and the surrounding towns, and today is largely residential with local shops and community amenities serving a mostly commuter population.
Like much of north-west England, Bamfurlong grew from rural roots into a community shaped by coal mining and textile-related industry in the 19th and early 20th centuries, traces of which remain in housing and local institutions. The village keeps a quiet, local character with pubs, clubs and grassroots sport, while offering good road and rail connections into Wigan and Manchester.
