Horningsham is a small village and civil parish in Wiltshire, set on the southern edge of Salisbury Plain close to the border with Somerset and overlooking the wooded parkland of the Longleat estate. The settlement retains a number of historic cottages and a medieval parish church, and its setting of rolling farmland and ancient woodland gives it a distinctly rural, picturesque character.
Traditionally agricultural, the local economy is now supplemented by tourism and employment connected with the nearby Longleat house and safari park, while many people commute to neighbouring towns such as Warminster. Socially it remains a compact, community-minded place with a village hall and regular local activities, and the presence of the estate has helped preserve the area’s historic buildings and landscape.
