Devizes is a traditional market town in Wiltshire, southwest England, set among the chalk downs and straddling the historic Kennet and Avon Canal. It’s perhaps best known for the dramatic flight at Caen Hill Locks, its Georgian streets and the ruins of a medieval castle, and it carries a strong market-town character with independent shops, cafes and canal-side life.
The town is home to the Wiltshire Museum, which houses important prehistoric finds from nearby Avebury and Stonehenge, and local industry includes the long-established Wadworth Brewery. Tourism, boating and walking are important to the local economy, and a lively programme of markets and community events keeps the social scene active.
