Copmanthorpe is a large village and civil parish in the City of York, about four miles south‑west of the city centre in England. Its name hints at medieval origins - "copman" (merchant) and "thorpe" (small settlement) - and the village today mixes a historic core of stone cottages and a village green with later housing, making it a popular commuter settlement with good road and cycle links into York.
The community is lively for a village of its size, with a primary school, village hall, pubs, sports clubs and a parish church that reflects its long history. Economically it is largely residential, with many people working in York or further afield while local shops, trades and small businesses sustain a village atmosphere; recent growth has generally been managed to retain character and conservation interest.
