Dunnington is a compact village just east of York, lying within the City of York unitary area. It has roots stretching back to the Domesday era and still centres on a medieval parish church, St Nicholas Church, and a small historic core that includes a village green and a number of traditional cottages, some of which fall within a conservation area.
Set on the flat agricultural landscape of the Vale of York, the village combines a rural character with a strong commuter presence: many residents work in York while enjoying quiet lanes, local shops, pubs, a primary school and active clubs such as the cricket and sports teams. Good road links (near the A1079) and frequent community events give it a lively social feel despite its modest size.
