Ardoyne

Ardoyne is an electoral ward in north Belfast, Northern Ireland, lying a short distance from the city centre around the area of the Antrim Road and neighbouring the New Lodge. It is a largely working‑class, predominantly Catholic and nationalist community with a dense urban fabric of terraced housing and local shops, and it has a strong local identity expressed through murals, bands and community groups.

The ward has a notable recent history from the Troubles and the post‑conflict period, with interface areas, peace walls and a legacy of sectarian tensions influencing everyday life. Economically Ardoyne reflects wider north Belfast challenges - higher unemployment and social deprivation - but also significant grassroots regeneration and community activism aimed at youth services, housing improvements and cross‑community projects.
