Castlederg

Castlederg is an electoral ward in the western part of the Derry City and Strabane district of Northern Ireland, centred on the small market town that sits on the banks of the River Derg. The ward covers the town and surrounding rural hinterland in west County Tyrone, close to the border with County Donegal, and is framed by the drumlin countryside with the distant backdrop of the Sperrin Mountains.

Locally the area is known for its historic castle ruins on a river island that gave the town its name, a strong Gaelic Athletic Association presence and an economy focused on agriculture, small retail and cross‑border links. The community has a long history - ranging from Plantation‑era roots to the challenges of the late 20th century - and today combines traditional rural life with local festivals and a network of small businesses serving the town and surrounding farms.
