Sion Mills is a small, tightly knit village in County Tyrone, lying on the banks of the River Mourne within the Derry City and Strabane district of Northern Ireland. It sits a short distance from Strabane and is within easy reach of Derry, making it both a distinct local community and a commuter-friendly spot.
The village is best known as a late 19th-century model village created around a linen mill by the Herdman family, and much of its planned layout, workers’ housing and community buildings survive as an unusually well-preserved example of industrial-era social provision. Today it retains a strong community spirit, a mix of small local businesses and cultural life, and attracts interest from those studying industrial heritage and village planning.
