Dromara is an electoral ward within the Lisburn and Castlereagh district in County Down, centred on the small Dromara village and the surrounding rural townlands. It sits on the southern slopes of Slieve Croob and the lower fringes of the Mourne Mountains, giving the ward a noticeably hilly, scenic character popular with walkers and riders and within reasonable commuting distance of Belfast.
The area is largely agricultural with a mix of small local businesses and strong community organisations; village pubs, clubs and parish halls remain important social hubs. There’s a tangible heritage in the landscape from ancient ringforts and standing stones to more recent linen and rural craft traditions, and the ward maintains a strong local identity despite its proximity to larger urban centres.
