The ward centred on Ardboe sits in the Mid Ulster district of Northern Ireland, on the western shore of Lough Neagh in County Tyrone. The landscape is low drumlin country with surrounding boglands and shoreline habitats, giving the area a quiet, rural character and links to fishing and wetland wildlife.
The place name comes from the Irish Ard Buidhe, meaning "yellow height", and the locality preserves the ruins of an early medieval monastery and the striking Ardboe High Cross, a well-known historic landmark. Today the ward remains largely agricultural with a history of peat working and angling nearby, while community life is focused around parish activities, local pubs and a strong GAA tradition in the form of Ardboe O'Donovan Rossa.
