Lower Glenshane is a rural ward in Mid Ulster, Northern Ireland, occupying upland countryside around the lower reaches of the Glenshane Pass on the edge of the Sperrin Mountains. The area is characterised by rolling moorland, pockets of conifer plantation and pasture, with sweeping views along the A6 corridor that links Derry and Belfast.
Local life is shaped by agriculture, forestry and small-scale tourism – walkers, cyclists and drivers often stop to enjoy the scenery and the quieter lanes – while community activity preserves traditional music, Gaelic place‑names and local events. Historically the pass has been an important transport route, and the surrounding landscape contains older field systems and scattered historic features that reflect long rural settlement.
