Mold is the county town of Flintshire in north‑east Wales, sitting on the lower slopes above the valley of the River Alyn. It grew as a market and administrative centre and still has a compact square, an active market tradition and a mix of 18th/19th‑century streetscapes. The town is famed for the Bronze Age burial finds discovered nearby, most famously the Mold Gold Cape (now in the British Museum), and its Welsh name Yr Wyddgrug alludes to those ancient barrows.
Geographically it’s convenient for walkers, lying close to the Clwydian Range and hills such as Moel Famau, yet also within commuting distance of Chester, Wrexham and the industrial areas of Deeside. Today Mold’s economy is largely service and retail based, with a lively local cultural scene, independent shops and cafés, and a strong community identity that mixes modern amenities with a sense of local history.
