Rhydymwyn is a small village in Flintshire in north‑east Wales, tucked into the steep-sided valley of the River Alyn and overlooked by the foothills of the Clwydian Range. The setting is characteristically limestone and karst, with old quarries, caves and attractive riverside walks - the valley scenery links into the wider network of footpaths and the popular gorge country around Loggerheads Country Park, and the village sits only a few miles from the market town of Mold.
Its history mixes rural industry and a surprising wartime role: nineteenth-century mining and quarrying left plenty of industrial archaeology, and in the Second World War a large ordnance and chemical‑defence establishment was based in the valley, traces of which still draw interest. Today Rhydymwyn is largely residential with a close-knit community, plenty of outdoor recreation for walkers and cavers, and many residents commuting to nearby towns for work.
