Aberdyfi sits at the mouth of the River Dyfi on the southern edge of Cardigan Bay in Gwynedd, Wales. The ward centres on a sandy beach, shifting dunes and a small harbour backing onto tidal saltmarsh, with low coastal hills and the distant peaks of Snowdonia on the skyline; it’s popular for sailing, surfing and coastal walks and is served by the Cambrian Coast Railway.
Historically a busy port involved in shipbuilding and the slate trade, the local economy is now driven largely by tourism, watersports and holiday accommodation, alongside small-scale fishing. The Dyfi estuary is an important nature and birdlife area and there’s a strong Welsh cultural presence and active community life, though locals often debate pressures from second homes and housing affordability.
